Gulak was using native bulletproof, I removed his rings before killing him – suspect
The Imo State Police Command on Wednesday paraded a wanted army deserter, Chinwendu Nwangwu, aka Onyearmy. The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Michael Abattam, while parading Onyearmy disclosed that the suspect was in the Nigerian Army for eight years before he decided to join IPOB to commit many atrocities and damages in the southeast region, the Punch reports.
Abattam while speaking to newsmen disclosed that the police had been watching his movements for more than a year and all efforts to arrest him used to be abortive as the suspect is a very smart criminal.
However, after so many attempts, the suspect was arrested during his father’s funeral in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
Before he was caught, the suspect was said to have picked to his heels when he saw the Nigerian police force at his father’s burial and his members engaged the police in a gun duel. After so many engagements, bullets still didn’t penetrate the body of Onyearmy as he had charms all over his body in which he calls ‘Odeshi’ meaning native bullet-proof.
While the suspect was speaking while he was paraded on Wednesday, he confessed and narrated how on May 30, 2021, his gang murdered Ahmed Gulak, the former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He made it known that Ahmed Gulak had protections on his fingers in form of a ring and because of that bullets were not penetrating his body not untill he removed the rings from his fingers and then he was now able to kill him.
He said, “I led the operation and we double-crossed and stopped the Toyota Camry taxi car that was taking Ahmed Gulak and his friend to the airport and ordered them to come down, shot him but the bullet did not penetrate his body, so I went to him removed the rings on his right fingers, shot and killed him along airport road.”
Nevertheless, the state Commissioner (CP), Mohammed Ahmed Barde, praised police operatives and commended members of the public for supporting the police by giving them necessary information to arrest the suspect who kidnapped Ahmed Gulak.
