Former Imo Governor Escapes Deadly Attack As Four Policemen Lose Their Lives

A former governor of Imo state, Dr Ikedi Ohakim, was today Monday, attacked by unknown gunmen.

The attack left four of his security orderlies dead.

The gunmen reportedly struck the former governor’s convey and set it ablaze when they failed to get him.

Ohakim, served as governor of the state from 2007 to 2011.

The attack reportedly took place at Oriagu in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state in the evening of Monday 2nd January, 2023.

Ohakim escaped the attack but his backup vehicle which conveyed his security team were not as lucky as iformation reaching us was that the driver, a Civil Defence officer was first to be killed, probably to de-mobilise the vehicle, before the other gallant officers were gunned down by their attackers.

Ohakim was traveling in the company of two of his children and was returning from a visit when the gunmen attacked.

A source close to the former governor revealed that it took the brevity of the former governor’s driver to ensure he escaped the attack.

The source revealed that Ohakim was the main target but his driver was smart enough to beat them because they could block his vehicle.

Frustrated by their failure of getting their target, the gunmen reportedly blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it along with the four policemen.

The former governor is yet to make any formal reaction to the incident.
